Shocked And Very Delighted - Windows CE Netbook Critique

By Leah Stewart

I watched CNET videos, I really don't see a problem with the device, and it works fine as a basic computer. You can do some basic design work, not a lot.

Instead of returning my computer, I just bought a skin, which probably amounted to the same price had I bought the brown netbook but at least I got to choose a really cool design. My Toshiba netbook arrived from Amazon today!

Reviews of this one were good so I took a chance.

I just cannot use a touch pad but have a wireless mouse to solve that issue. The case is good looking, solid and feels good to the touch; enables a good grip for folks like me who tend to drop things. The package as a whole is good. It's light, comfortable and doesn't feel cheap. It worked right out of the box. Orange color looks great. It arrived fast, and working OK! All in all, I WOULD recommend it to my friends!

You have to sort of pry the card out when you want it out, but if you leave a card docked there, like I do, it's not a problem and it doesn't dangerously stick out the side of the machine when you are putting it into a case. Plus they save the cost and complexity of a spring. I did upgrade to 2G of memory. Now I know nothing about computer innards and the replacement was very easy. I typically get a good 7-8 hours without plugging it in. Screen resolution is as good as any monitor or other laptop I've seen.

I upgraded the memory with the 15% off coupon from Toshiba, bought an auto adapter for trips, because the size of the netbook is so much more convenient. Then Amazon offered a discount on the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade. The sound is the only week point I could find in the whole package. Not very loud and the speakers are poor quality. I taxed it for about 2 hours on battery eco mode watching YouTube and surfing nonstop and it still says it has about 4 hours left on the meter. Maybe not quite the 8 hours claimed but pretty good. I only use this for surfing the Internet and writing in Word. I downloaded Firefox because I use that on my other computers (it comes with Chrome and IE installed). I'd buy it again if I had the chance. I had very much been wanting a netbook for some time so when my laptop's hard drive failed, I bought this at the local CompUSA.
