A Great Quality Item - Cheap Antivirus Software Review

By Emma Perry

Been running it for a couple months and wouldn't even know it was there except for two or three times that it notified me of an unsafe website or potential hack. Also very easy to select e-mail addresses as 'spam' which it sends to the 'junk' e-mail folder for deletion. Ten years ago, Norton was abysmal software. However, they've come a long way since then. The new Norton seems to be updating 10-20 times a day, constantly slowing down my computer. I can get all kinds of analysis and graphs that I do not need, but no help or even more importantly OPTIONS to stop the spastic eternal updating. I also recommend NIS over Norton 360, as the latter product is overkill for the average user, and can consume more memory/resources. Most times, issues have been due to non-removal of other/earlier versions of Norton software. The recent improvements in installation are continuing to be great. First, to get one's money's worth, it is best to wait to install the product as long as possible. This is because the one-year subscription starts when the product is installed. I'm happy to say this is the best version I've ever used, more proactive and at the same time less intrusive. I still use NIS 2009 on my XP machine, and it runs much better than the old resource hogs from the mid 2000's. I've been running Norton Internet Security happily for nearly a year. So, when it was time to renew I did a little research and was not surprised to find that in function (not in theory) Norton Internet Security seems to be a top performer for a second year in a row.

Highly recommended! Norton provides two other products, "360" and "Norton utilities". With the Norton Internet Security and Spybot-SD Resident, I have all the protection I need on my computers. I've purchased these products for probably the last time.

Secondly, I don't like the default settings on this software. I like software that I can turn on when I need it, not the other way around. I'm using this on three machines, two windows 7 and one vista and it runs great. I'm giving it one star only because you can't go any lower.

Norton IS installed easy and runs very nice in the background without hogging the CPU. I had Kaspersky cleaned it up effortlessly.

I have been using the Norton security products for many years, and I have been for the most part very satisfied with them. The one gripe I have is that every year when I go to renew my subscription, I find that I can purchase new copies of the software for less than the renewal price.

It's very tiring buying software that basically exists to keep your operating system working the way it should do straight out of the box anyway. It is dead money.
