How To Beat Free Cell Solitaire

By Eric Stafford

The game of FreeCell solitaire is a fun and challenging card game. Unlike other versions of the card game, success in FreeCell solitaire is largely dependent upon skill, not chance. By using proper strategy and making the correct plays just about and deal can be beaten. There are very few FreeCell solitaire deals that are impossible to solve. This makes the game more challenging and enjoyable to play.

You have a better chance of winning if you plan your strategy carefully. Here you will find several simple rules that can help you to win FreeCell Solitaire on more regular basis.

The most obvious moves are not necessarily the ones to make. You must take time to view the tableau prior to making a move. You must try to see the board a few moves in advance.

Your initial priority should be to move the Aces to the home cells. It is imperative to identify and locate deeply buried Aces in order to free them so you may move them to the home cell.

The maneuverability afforded by free cells is imperative to your ability to win. You must only place a card in a free cell if it is the only play you have available to you. Otherwise, you will soon find that you are unable to make other moves. Keeping free cells open is vital to your success.

Try to create an empty tableau pile as soon as possible. Empty tableau piles are more important than free cells. Each empty tableau can be used to store an entire sequence instead of a single card. And it doubles the length of an ordered sequence of cards that can be moved from one tableau to another. (If the long sequence move involves both empty tableaus and free cells, it is often called supermove.)

If it is possible, fill an empty tableau space with a long descending sequence that begins with a King.

Keep the home cells open as long as you can. You will find you often require these cards later in the game to move other suits of low cards.

Sometimes you will find a deal that you can beat quickly and with little effort. Many times, however, the deals present bigger challenges. As with any skill based game, it takes time to build your skills to identify which moves you should be making and when. Keep practicing and you will find your winning percentage increasing with your affinity for the game.
