MSDS

By Miss Christopher

The cleaning staff should be properly instructed on how to handle the substances and materials you have with your job and on how to safely use them and this is through the help of the materials safety data sheets or the MSDS. Having your cleaning staff read the MSDS is not proper because you really have to explain to them and have them their proper training.

Training sessions must be set ahead of the time for it to be successful and doing well for the staff. Planning the sessions for training ahead is very effective because you will be able to provide a good training or the staff especially those that are very important for them to know. You need to make use of your time in training and since there are many chemicals and substances present that the staff needs to know, it doesn't mean that you need to orient them to it individually but instead just group them as disinfectants, window cleaners or maybe all-purpose cleaners. You can talk about the groups in general so that your staff will understand and recall it easily. Don't forget to include special precautions needed in each substance when you mention it generally.

Leaflets should also be considered to be given to the staff, to make it easy for them to learn all of the chemicals before any urgent circumstances occur. Putting each container of the substances a label is very significant because this will help your staff know what kind of substances you are talking about. A dictionary of words is very significant because this will help the staff easily remember the many substances that you gave them.

It is very essential for the cleaning staff to know the importance of knowing the MSDS. This includes important information about safety measures and health issues about the chemicals that are involve in your work. Included in here are the topics about its exposure times and its effects to human and above all is concerning about the measurements that we need to do in times of emergency. This will also help the employees to aware of the proper gear that they need to use.

There are a lot of ways in which you can really say that your staff learned something from the training that they have:

You can always ask the employees to state the names of the chemicals on the list of words given to them and let them explain it to you. Prior to discussing every chemical you have, you need to take a look at the MSDS format since there are facts in specific that your employees need to know so that they can look for them quickly.

You need to talk about the consequences of each suggestion about the exposure all day long and even with the procedures in the area. You need to have the containers of each chemical labeled as hazardous among the others o that your staff will be guided. You also need to teach them the treatments that you need to know in cases of emergency and the proper way to handle the chemicals safely.

You also need to mention to them about the special precautions for materials that are combustible and the proper disposal of the chemicals.

All the materials that a company produces should have an MSDS. If there is an avoidable injury, then your employees will have an edge through the training that they underwent.
