Pros And Cons Of The IPad 2

By Erwin Bauer

Tablet computers are becoming increasingly popular with consumers. It may be their size of their portability, but these computers seem to be taking a fair bit of the market share away from laptops. When searching for one of these tablets, many consumers gravitate towards the iPad 2. Before buying one of these devices, though, it is important to know the pros and cons of using an iPad 2.

Advantages and Benefits

The iPad 2 is the quintessential tablet, and for good reason. It is near the peak of the pack in both form and function, and it does have many positive selling points. Perhaps the biggest positive aspect of the iPad 2 is its ease of use - almost anyone can pick up the iPad 2 and figure out how to use it within a few minutes, and this holds true for most of the applications that come pre-loaded on the device. The screen size is also a bit larger than most of the tablets on the market, allowing for even those with poor eyesight to actually enjoy the use of the device.

Not surprisingly, the iPad 2 also boasts the support of Apple. The iPad 2 has better music, movie and application access than any other computer tablet and its larger screen makes viewing easier. The tablet's battery life is also quite long, which means that one can listen to music or watch a film without interruptions.

The Cons

Although the iPad 2 is a quality device, just like most products it is associated with some negative factors, as well. Due to the fact that it is relatively new on the market, its price is still quite high. Additionally, it offers few functions outside of those offered by Apple, which makes it a bit more limited than one may think. Expansion is not possible, and the tablet does not offer a USB ports. Should one decide to buy an iPad 2, he or she would be wise to purchase the model with the most memory, as additional memory cannot be added later. In addition, 3G capability can only be acquired through a rather costly data plan.

The biggest problem with the iPad 2 is that you have to rely so much on Apple technology. The Flash support is lacking, so it will cripple any web browsing you might want to do. This will not be as much of a problem for the iPhone, but it will be very annoying to anyone who wants a tablet that will replace their laptop.

The iPad 2 has definite pros and cons, but most of the main points will vary from consumer to consumer. The device is a great choice for those looking for a popular tablet that is easy to use, but perhaps not the best for those that are looking for something that is more functional or that can be upgraded. In the end, it is certainly still competitive with most other tablets at its price point. Whether or not it will fit an individual consumer's needs, though, is uncertain.
