Parents should talk about: Usually do not solely rely on parental controls

By Virginia Damme

Consider volunteering your nearby library, school, or Boys & Girls Club to assist younger children online. Many schools and nonprofit organizations require individuals to help setup their computers and Internet capabilities.

After having talked to our children and educated them about the cyber world it is now payback time. Teenagers are now able not just in handle themselves well online but they're also 'tech savvy', more so than us. Talk to your children about how they are able to help others. Talk to children about how precisely they can fit into society as productive and responsible citizens.

They might probably help train younger children at schools or libraries and enable them to comprehend the computer world and what can be beneficial for them and what would not. They can also probably volunteer to help setup internet facilities and computers for nonprofit organizations or at their very own school. Instill the need for community service in your children in order that they are not only taking from society but also giving to it. After all it is the world!

When using a social network site, restrict access to the profile, using privacy settings, talking only to people known in the real world.

Never accept unsolicited email, files, photographs, videos or attachments from online strangers.

Google your kids. Safe Eyes is amongst the great parental control software program. Go online with your children.

Register for your own account on MySpace, or other social networks, to obtain an accurate "feel" with the site your young ones visit.

Passwords should not be distributed to anyone, including friends. Have you any idea your children's passwords?

Remember, what is published or said online today, can come back to haunt you tomorrow. If your child does opt for a picture, blur or morph it before posting.
