Health Problems Triggered By Black Mold

By Adriana Noton

Exposure to black mold is something that needs to be avoided at all cost. This is because such exposure can cause various health ailments. Inside pollution in the form of mold can be more dangerous than pollution from the outdoors. Black mold is basically a type of fungus that grows in places which are moist, warm and dark. It is very slimy and its colour is greenish black.

The fungi usually grow in places such as shower heads, bathroom tiles, basements and sinks. This fungus is known to be very toxic. The moment the fungi enters the human body, their main goal is to take over your immune system. As a result you start experiencing various health problems.

Once you have been in contact with this mold, the chances of you developing certain ailments are very high. You can develop a condition such as an allergic reaction. Symptoms of the allergic reactions that you might experience include rashes, hives, constant sneezing and a runny nose. Other indications can also include burning sensations in the mouth and throat as well as an itching throat.

Exposure to this fungus can also cause diseases linked to the psychological state of people. This especially affects children who tend to experience low memory as well as concentration. Other symptoms also include mood swings and irritable behaviour. In many instances exposure to this fungus worsens medical problems which people are already suffering from.

A good example is that of asthma. Individuals that suffer from asthma usually find that their symptoms get worse due to exposure to black mold. Such people tend to develop respiratory problems such as a dry cough and difficulty breathing. Other health problems include dizziness and sleepiness.

In some cases people who already suffer from urinary tract infections find that the symptoms worsen. The above mentioned symptoms are very common in people who expose themselves to the fungi. However, there are also other possible symptoms associated with the fungi. These include vision problems, hair loss, itching, reduced sex drive, foul breath and indigestion.

As soon as you notice that your home has this fungus, it is best that you do something about it fast to prevent further harm to you and your loved ones. This means that you have to first rid your home of this mold. The fungus usually comes about as a result of a leakage somewhere in your house. Once the water starts dripping, it creates the perfect place for the fungus to grow and thrive. That is why you have to call a plumber to come and fix the leakage problem and thus deal with the source. After the leakage problem has been dealt with, you can use homemade or chemical products to get rid of the fungi.

Sometimes we might notice that there is a leakage in the house but we simply ignore or we do not take it seriously. The idea behind fixing leaking pipes quickly is that you want to avoid creating the perfect environment for these fungi to thrive. If the black mold has already developed, the best thing you can do is to fix the plumbing issues that are the root cause of the problem. Thereafter, clean up your home and get rid of the fungi.
