Components of eCommerce Web Design

By Meagan Connelly

In your business, eCommerce solutions are not only necessary, but vital. In ecommerce web design there are actually a few different parts for you to consider. Finding a good company is only part of the battle, and with that being said, let's look at the three different parts of developing a webpage for your business.

The Design of your Page

While it can look very simple, the design process most certainly is not. What would your page look like? How will you deploy the features you want? When you look at other pages on the internet, you should attempt to figure out how you are going to either match or exceed their standards. Neither one of these is going to be easy, but they can be achieved if you simply keep trying.

One of the most important things you can do is ensure that you are using up to date technology. Up to date technologies such as Flash and CSS will allow the user to load the page quickly. The only major downside to using CSS is that all of the format information for your pages happens to be stored in one file, and loss of that file can create a serious problem. The pages will be accessible, but not aesthetically pleasing. Instead of using this as your excuse to stay away from CSS however, it should be an excuse to take extra precautions.

Site Development

To say the least, your ecommerce design scheme is going to require a professional touch. In the end, you will need to make sure that your web designer has a heavy knowledge of web design, and can help you compete against others in your industry. This is one of the more important eCommerce solutions, and your web designer will need to know all of the different languages, protocols, and even hardware. It is important to build a webpage that meets the modern standard but can be loaded by older computers. Mobile browsers are yet another consideration. You will of course need to employ a bit of skill in the creation of a mobile browser, understanding that browsers are different across the platform.

The SEO Standard

The third and final component to take into account is Search Engine Optimization. SEO is a tool you can use to draw traffic and even convert that traffic into sales if the right keywords are used. Through search engine crawlers, pages are indexed properly on the internet. When you are selecting your keywords, make sure you use relevant keywords as using non-relevant keywords can cause a page to be delisted.

Though it might be hard to believe, eCommerce solutions can be simple and complex at the same time. There are many things to consider when you are attempting to build a brand, especially in the online world. There are many other websites out there vying for the attention of the customers, and you are just one. Remember this, and do your best to not slack on the design process. If you play your cards right, it won't be long before you have all the customers and business you need!
