A Short Monk Guide For Diablo 3

By Jassper Jenkins

In this brief Diablo 3 Monk Leveling Guide we will explore the unique attributes of the new monk class and learn about the traits that set the them apart from other melee classes in Diablo 3.

The monk is know for his or her mastery of both mind and body. Only after many years of training in the spiritual and martial arts do they leave the monastery and enter into battle to rid the land of evil.

Monks use their masterful training to quickly dispatch of both single targets and multiple enemies when the occasion calls for it. They are highly skilled in hand to hand combat and can also use a variety of deadly weapons as killing tools. Their single target DPS is perhaps a bit more of their specialty than their AOE attacks, making them a great addition to any group looking to down high level enemies.

Many of the monk's abilities are meant to be used quickly as part of larger combo-like attacks. You can do quite a bit more damage by chaining together certain abilities one after another. Additionally, by killing enemies quickly, you will gain more experience through the new experience combo bonus system.

Each class in Diablo 3 has their own resource; for the monk this resource is spirit. As legend has it, the monk's spirit comes from his inner most being and can be channeled outward to empower his deadly attacks.

Unarmed combat is not the only way the monk can take out his enemies. This versatile class can also make use of many weapons including the katar, the daibo (or bo) and the fighting staff. These three weapons in particular go far to define the fighting style of the monk.

Monks don't have armor quite as strong as some more sturdy melee classes, namely the barbarian. However, at higher levels monks are in fact able to wear some fairly decorative and protective items which, while not as strong as that of the barbarian, certainly do the job of protecting him in battle.

Monks also have abilities that benefit not only themselves but other members of their party as well. These new abilities are called mantras and cost 25 spirit each time they are cast. The mantras provide a wide range of abilities. Some mantras increase damage, others increase dodge and still others give a bonus to life regeneration.

I hope that this brief Diablo 3 monk leveling guide has given you a good idea of the skills and abilities offered by the monk class. With the ability to do great damage, buff the party, and throw out some heals now and then, the monk will definitely be a great addition to any group in Diablo III!
