Eight Things an Android smartphone is able to do that an iPhone cannot!

By Farah Frafali

The debate among Android and iPhone has grown as worn and dull as the eternal debate between Windows and OS X. Nevertheless, as Android enthusiasts we thought we would assemble a thorough list on 8 things which an Android phone is able to do that an iPhone can't.

1. Openness: The Android operating-system is open source and maintained by Google. This allows app programmers and even smartphone providers complete freedom to tweak and customize the source as they wish. This allows them to develop interesting, ground breaking new applications. There is no limit to what a programmer or smartphone supplier is able to do with Android.

2. Tight Integration With Google Applications: While we can't refute that Google's scatter gun method of building web apps and services leaves all of us dazed and confused, there are some invaluable tools at our fingertips like Transliteration, Google Books, Google Scribe, Walky Talky and the ever geeky Sky Map. One app that may likely never make it to the iPhone is the Google Maps Navigation. All these applications cost nothing and perform beautifully on virtually any Android phone.

3.Customized For You By You: using your iPhone you can have virtually any display layout you like provided that it's arranged with a four column grid. Doesn't seem truly user friendly. Android allows you to pimp out the experience with widgets and arrange the dashboard as you want. Widgets may contain a group of applications and expand when selected.

4. Battery Saving: Android boasts some of the best power conservation features in the smartphone market built right in to the device. It is not necessary to install additional apps, the system maximizes the battery life in the background.

5. Connectivity: Contrary to the iPhone you are not dependent on your iTunes account and can connect and use on any type of computer. This openness and portability makes an Android mobile phone the ultimate in flexibility.

6. Kill Switch: In the click of a button, Google can deliver a signal to all Android phones in order to kill any rogue programs. This keeps your device protected constantly and you can rest assured knowing that Google has your back.

7. Adobe Flash: Apple is anti-Flash, we know that. Nonetheless, think about the millions of people who have to be inconvenienced as a consequence of Apple's whims? Android is not going to place any constraints around the form of media you can view.

8. Security: Android is an open source platform. This implies that there are tens of thousands of developers looking at the bits continuously. Whenever you leverage the strength of the crowd like this, security issues are revealed and patched rapidly. Furthermore, Google Android can repair itself auto-magically without needing to be connected to Apple iTunes.

These are simply Eight things which we believe an Android phone or tablet can perform that an iPhone can't. How many other ways are you aware of that makes the Android smartphone superior?
