Get the Right Mobile Computer

By Allyson Westcot

Hand-held devices can be anything from tablet Computers to smartphones. While a smartphone might be less expensive than sturdy tablet, you've got to consider if it'll do everything you need it to. Sturdy tablet computers are engineered to take abuse, but the most sturdy smartphone might not be able to square up to a fraction of the elements and weather changes a durable tablet could. Don't choose a technology based on that fact that it costs less or seems more handy when there is a device out there that can better meet your needs.

A smartphone will take up less space and weigh less than any tablet, but you may be shocked at how lightweight and compact durable tablet computers can be. Also consider storage space. Where will the handheld PC be while not in use? If you are purchasing online, look at the weight and size dimensions of tablet computers to be certain they are what you want. You may be able to find a variety, so you can narrow it down to the lightest and most compact tablet you can find.

Is a durable smartphone going to be in a position to handle the type of information you need to process? It may, but a rugged laptop or tablet will give you more processing power, speed, display size and options than a smartphone can. It's also much more likely that you are going to be able to use a greater diversity of software on a tablet PC than a smartphone, which might use its own special OS that will not be compatible with a lot of standard programs.

Cost will always be a major point of comparison, but you need to weigh the durability of the device against the guarantees it incorporates, and any manufacturer's warranty. A smartphone might not be rated against hazards like moisture, dust, intense temperatures and impact. Even though it might cost less than a sturdy tablet, it might not be right for the environment you can use it in.

A sturdy tablet, from the other standpoint, should be designed to hold up against the most difficult conditions. Most durable laptops also come with a minimum 3-year guarantee, so you are more protected against failure.
