Steps To Follow On How To Recover Lost File

By Berta Simon

People who have used a computer for quite a long time, knows exactly how painful it is to lose an important file. Individuals who took their time to come up with ways of how to recover lost file, did a great job. In most cases people lose files through careless handling of a computer.

If someone accidentally deletes files on the hard disk, the best thing to do is to check in the recycle bin to see if the files still exist. If one is lucky to find it, drag it back to either desktop or hard drive. That is the safest way to retrieve accidentally deleted files.

One may not find the missing data in the recycle bin. That means the data was deleted permanently. If ones has backup then that person is lucky. If the computer is in a network that backup is done on regular basis, then one can talk to the network supervisor.

A person may also use commercial utilities for data retrieval. These utilities scan the computer to check for missing files. Operating system normally does not wipe out the bits of a file. They remain in the hard drive.

When planning to retrieve data, installation of the recovery program should be done on a separate partition. This is to prevent files being retrieved from being overwritten. A person must install the program from a CD-ROM.

If ones hard drive crashed, one should try to repair it with the disk repair utility. Repair disk utility comes with the operating system. One should try that and see if it will work.

If this utility that comes with the operating system fails to respond, one can opt for hard drive commercial utilities. Though such programs may be limited, they might help in retrieving lost files. This program works best if it had been installed before the drive crashed.

One way to recover lost file, is to take the hard disk to an expert. They will try to recover files by disassembling the drive first. Here an individual will give out some service fee.
