Good And Bad Bloggers - Characteristics

By Tiffany Nash

There are two general types of bloggers. The one that makes money with the site and the one that does it just for fun. The past few years have seen a proliferation of money-oriented bloggers, as those who blog simply for fun seem to be going the way of the dinosaur. One thing people have to realize is that it is not bad to make money with your blog. And you and your readers could benefit more with the right advertising.

The common mistake people make is that they start to care more about the money than their readers. They focus on picking the highest paying ads and don't care if they are in line with the topic of their blog. Have you ever seen dating ads on a gardening blog? Some readers may find this deplorable, not the least the blog's main readership, and furthermore, turns off new readers.

According to research, it takes but eight seconds for a consumer to determine whether a site is credible. Some blogs are painfully lacking in subtlety, so cluttered with ads that even a "rube", a first-time Internet browser would conclude that the owner is trying to sell something. On the other hand, if advertising and content are combined mellifluously on the site, this invariably leads to success. It makes your site look more credible, and when readers see an ad on your site after reading a well-written, conversational article, they might just click on it because after all, you have gained their trust through looking credible. A good idea is to start thinking about your readers as your friends. Would you try so hard to sell stuff to your friends? Probably not.

To be Dr. Blogger (as in Dr. Jekyll), you need to do the following:

Write with passion and write about something you love. Think about what's in it for your readers. Never, EVER sell out to the caprices of extra cash especially if it means recommending something you don't believe in. Gain loyal readers because that is how success can be attained in the long run.

Bad blogger does the following.

Focuses on profit, profit and nothing but more profit. think about how to make their their readers click on ads or affiliate links Makes recommendations, albeit those with a high payout. With all that said, his/her success is only limited, as they only get a few measly cents for having their readers click away, or their readers are quickly put off by the blog owner's painfully obvious attempts to sell something.

Success will be yours if you focus on the benefits your readers can glean and tackle your subject matter with expertise and unusual insight. But take note this is not something that happens overnight, because building a fortune online requires sacrifice and a good chunk of your time. But at the end of the day, it is still easier than you may think to make money online, especially through blogging - yesterday's online diaries, today's moneymakers.
