Quick Tips For A Professional Style Web Site

By Arlene Case

Dismissing website basics is a bad idea. Here are a few tips to help you jump-start your website.

When it comes to information, make sure they're informative, useful, and practical. You should implement the goals and objectives you've considered when you build your site. Include newsletters, other links, articles and promotions on your site. Maintain your site frequently, meaning keep it up-to-date. This way, visitors will return to your site because they know that the information you offer is current.

Create an easy navigation route. Having your page links grouped together is one way to do this. Visitors will then get easy access because it directs them on one area on the page. Minor links such as contact us, about us, career opportunities, media, etc. These can be placed at the bottom or top of the home page. They're not the main features of the site even they're important. With all links and new pages you create be sure to put a 'home' link on all those pages. This is an easy way for your viewers to go back to the main page rather than back clicking lots of times. Because navigation is important, you need to check and recheck your page links and make sure the navigation is done correctly.

Your site being fast is also a requirement. Keeping the graphic size between 80k-100k is important if you don't want your download time to be slow. You need to remember that the best Internet connection may not be used by all your viewers. What you can do so that those who use a text browser can access your site is make it cross compatible.

To whom is the site being designed for? That would be the target audience. Their spending habits, gender, class, and age are some of the things you need to identify. It's one way of creating a site that has a personable and likable feeling. You want to create for an individual not for the masses.

Offering contact for your visitors is also a good idea. For consumer to business, in your 'contact us' page, try to include your phone, email, feedback text box, and even postal and fax number. This is highly beneficial because it allows you to hear from your visitors. However, you need to make certain you'll answer their questions and concerns and don't leave them hanging. You can also offer email marketing or syndication for business to consumer, and these are great ways to keep visitors informed if they don't regularly visit.

Use this information not just for your own website but for evaluating others. With this information, not only will you have the knowledge of evaluating other websites, but if will also help you keep your site professional looking.
