Five Stars For What It Is - Best Compact Digital Camera Critique

By Joshua Alexander

I bought this as a fix so that I could at least take some pictures while snorkeling. Out of the box, this camera was awful. Maybe because of that I leave it on a lot and that's why the battery runs out! This camera is amazing. I like the artistic modes too, although I have not had much excuse to use them at work. I also use it in dark areas (think dusk to twilight) to focus on objects 20 feet away. If you want a great camera that captures action, this is not the camera for you. I hate to see what it looks like when taking underwater photos, especially when shooting objects in motion.

It does have a slow return so I need to find that option of turning off the preview to make the return quicker. The camera is great.

The pictures I have taken both indoors and outdoors are clear not grainy and the HD video is awesome. This camera even has sound when previewing your vids from camera, which I love since my Kodak didn't. I highly recommend buying the extended warranty if you get this camera. This camera has many positive attributes that should make it attractive to the casual photographer or videographer (or even to serious hobbyists who might themselves unable to schlep full size gear).

Don't know that I would trust the waterproof feature 100% for underwater photography, especially if it has been opened in unfavorable conditions (at the beach) and the "O" ring seal gets contaminated (not an uncommon problem). The warranty won't cover water intrusion damage in that case. The only way to add the date is during printing utilizing a PictBridge compatible printer. "0" stars if I could. This does the job of both of my previous cameras, plus adds underwater options, all while taking up a quarter of the space. The only thing I would change is the delay before it takes the video or picture.

After punishing this poor little camera all summer, I've got to say I am deeply impressed with it. The panorama option is also a phenomenal addition - I have some amazing sunset shots that look seamless thanks to the built in sensor (automatically lines up and takes the next 2 shots for you- all you have to do is move the camera and it does the rest). While I haven't exposed it deliberately to any of these yet...I'll update once it's been initiated. I bought this camera for my daughter to take on her vacation. We used it on our trip to Puerto Rico and it was great. The underwater shots and video were great.

Well - it worked fine at the beach the first day - in the surf and on the sand - the second day we took it snorkeling - in less than 2 feet of water flashed a message saying "Lost Connection" - it then gave up completely. We did everything correctly, charged and loaded the battery at home - no sand, dust or obstruction to the waterproofing.

I always use the 'lock' on the side and rinse it in fresh water after taking it in the ocean so I'm not sure how water keeps getting in the battery compartment, but it does. I sent it in the first time and they fixed it, but this time it's been exactly a year so I'm not sure what I'll do.
