By Clare Westwood

How To Become A Graphics Designer

As the IT industry is continuing to grow the need for talented graphics designers is also growing. From web paged to corporate logos, the work of graphics designers is in demand.

Graphics designers work in many different places, some work full time in large companies whereas others work in smaller firms or even go freelance.

The first step in becoming a graphics designer is to study for a bachelor's degree in fine art or graphics design. A degree isn't essential but it does set you apart from others. Some graphics design courses can be studied for online too.

If you do enrol on a degree programme you should look out for modules on computerized design and be constantly aware of any new software that comes onto the market.

If you aren't as interested in keeping up with the latest software then a career in graphics design is probably not a route you'll want to go down.

To make your CV stand out from the crowd you should ensure that you are fully competent in software programmes such as javascript, adobe and dreamweaver.

It is often vital that graphics design professionals attempt to immerse themselves into the industry of graphics design. Staying up to date with new tools and trends in the industry is essential.

Attempting to join in on online forums is a good way to get your name heard in the industry, it also gives you a good platform to find out what others are working on.

Make it a priority to join in online forums and get involved in any competitions or conferences advertised. Becoming involved in these type of events will get you recognition.

The main goal of a graphics designer is, after all to create high quality designs that are hopefully to become recognisable as yours, therefore constant practice is essential if you are to succeed.
