Before You Hire a Computer Repair Service Be Informed!

By Mischa Long

When your computer stops working it is a frustrating thing. Not only is this a huge inconvenience and a cause for concern due to the potential loss of data (imagine all that hard work gone in an instant), but having a computer fixed can cost a lot of money depending on what went wrong. If you're worried about how much you'll pay in case you need computer repair services, here is a short guide to help give you an idea about the kind of cost you can expect:

Anticipate the hourly rates.

While some computer repair services charge a fee based on the kind of repair done, many charge by the hour. The man hours are determined by the technician himself, of how long it will take for him to fix your computer.

A $30 rate per hour is typical. Usually, repair time averages 2 hours. So you spend $60, assuming that everything is finished in 2 hours. When the work extends beyond that, prepare to add more. You might also pay extra for software or hardware installation.

You can also ask if the service shop is charging the full cost for the computer repair just to prevent being overcharged by a slow technician. In which case, if the computer wasn't fixed at all, you don't have to pay for it.

Try remote repair.

There are companies that can fix your computer by hooking up to it online. They can fix your problems by remote and you can even monitor the progress in real time. These services can be very helpful only if your computer problems are software-related. They're also quite affordable, charging fees that start from around $39.

Simple tasks of computer maintenance and repair like checkups, diagnostics, installation and/or reinstallation, etc. can cost as little as $25 to about $150 per hour. The low rate is usually for the most basic work involved while the high rate is for extensive work involved.

You can do the checkups and backups yourself so you can spare yourself from costly repairs in the future.

Take all these pointers into consideration so as not to worry how much you have to spend when looking for computer repair services.
