A VoIP Phone System OffersAn Innovative Way To Think About Calling

By Mary Ann O. Elliott

You will probably be very surprised to learn what a VoIP phone system is if you have never heard about one before. VoIP is an acronym for voice over Internet protocol and the name suggests exactly what the system does. If you have a traditional phone, it likelyuses an analog signal. However, VoIP systems convert that analog signal into a digital form so that they can be delivered over the Internet.

There are many places that these types of phone systems have been implemented; however, the concept is still relatively new. Because of this technology, we are certain to see a major change in the way we make and receive phone calls in the very near future. A VoIP phone system typically works through some type of software but there are actually three different ways in which it can be implemented.

An ATA, analog telephone adapter, is just one of the ways that a VoIP phone system can be put to use. A regular phone can be plugged into one of these adapters and the ATA will convert analog signals into digital ones that can be sent via the Internet. The second way to implement this kind of phone system is by using an IP phone, or an Internet protocol phone. There is not much that is special to this type of phone other than the connections it requires. Standard phones get plugged into a standard phone jack but an IP phone needs to be plugged directly into your router via an Ethernet port. Wi-Fi phones work in a similar fashion except they use Wi-Fi rather than a direct connection.

There is also a third way to implement a VoIP phone system and that is directly with a computer. Communicating with other people using this method is equally cheap and easy. Your computer serves as the phone and you can call other computers for free provided that the proper software and sound equipment is installed. There are many different programs that enable users to make free computer-to-computer calls but charge to make computer to analog phone calls.

VoIP calling plans are accessible to both residential and commercial users from many distinct providers It is possible that the traditional phone system will be obsolete after the VoIP phone system has been completely implemented. These kinds of systems are very beneficial for companies that have multiple phone lines and offices. This is because the IP system eradicates the need for purchasing expensive hardware and can save money by combining a voice plan with a data plan.
