Build A Better Website With These Web Design Tips

By Ramiro Spenser

Have you ever designed a website? If you have, then you understand just how frightening this can be. Creating a web identity for yourself or anyone else can be intimidating. By reading on, you can gain some helpful knowledge as you approach website design and seek to succeed.

Add a search feature to a website. When visitors come to your website, they want to easily be able to find what they are looking for. A keyword search feature will make it easy for people to find the right page on your site, especially if the website you are designing is very complex.

Perhaps the most important tip that every web designer should use is to always increase their knowledge base. No one knows everything there is to know about web design as it is changing and expanding every day. Make sure you keep up with the latest advancements by taking the time to learn new tips and tricks.

Keep your page sizes to a minimum. Not all internet users have fast connection speeds, and the longer your site takes to load, the less interest they will have. You do not want your page viewers to be stuck waiting for every page to download, or they may end up abandoning your site.

Do not use images for your background. When you think about some of the biggest websites on the Internet, they do not have images as backgrounds. When you use image backgrounds, you represent yourself as someone who is not well-versed in web designing. Images as backgrounds also cause your site to load slower, which can lead to user frustration.

For your image tags, always try to include a brief description in the ALT attribute. Not only is this good for search engine optimization, but it is also beneficial to the sight-impaired users who rely on screen readers to describe image tag contents. Make your description short and as descriptive as possible.

If you are hiring a web design company to create a web page for your company, you need to ask them for references. If the company does not have any references for you to contact you should avoid doing business with them because they more than likely do not have the experience that is needed to create a quality web page.

When designing your website, create independent CSS pages for the web browsers and use conditional loading. Using these techniques makes it much easier for testing and ensuing maintenance later on. All websites need to be maintained at some point, and you want it to be as simple as possible so you can easily make changes.

Make sure you have a good idea about what types of pages you want to add to your website. Site design is only easy if you plan ahead thoroughly. If you need a contact page, a sales page, various landing pages, etc, make sure you add them all early on. You can always edit as needed as the site starts to take shape.

Always utilize media and content that is both relative to your site's goal, but also interesting to the potential consumers who will be viewing your site. A site that has relative info, but that is not interesting, won't captivate its audience. A website that uses fun, but non-relative information, will captivate the wrong audience. Both methods equal profits that you are losing.

Now that you've reached the end of this article, you are probably itching to go out there and design a killer website. Armed with the knowledge that you've gotten from this article, you should be able to do just that. Use this information and your best instincts to design the site of your dreams.
