How I Almost Destroyed my iPad Dock

By Matt Liquori

It's a horrible truth, but the basic facts nonetheless. I was unaware how bad this really can be for your laptop, your iPhone charger, iPhone case , and maybe even your iPad dock . I recall during my youth I was hear the computer making a noise like it was breathing heavy or something like that. I never used to pay it much real attention, but now I understand how important that sound can be for your laptop.

I was simply charging my iPod up the other night and when I woke up in the morning all I could hear was that disturbing sound of my laptop dying off. I didn't comprehend why this was happening so I brought my laptop right over the nearest Best Buy to get it fixed.

After the first go around, the folks at Best Buy told me that they couldn't help me and could not figure out what was the problem with my laptop. At this point I was getting pretty nervous. I then did the only other thing that I could do at the time, which was to bring it to my friend's house because his dad is great with technology.

When I brought my laptop over, my friends dad turned it on and let it boot up. Immediately I heard that awful sound of death approaching my computer, and started to get scared that I would be leaving his house with no more laptop. After a while of letting it sit, the noise slowed down but it was still there. My buddy's dad looked at me and asked what I had done to it a short while ago, if I installed or downloaded anything. I said no because up until that point in time the only thing I really did on my laptop was homework and surf the web.

It gradually came out that I usually charge my iPod using the iPhone charger and on occasion, I let it charge over night. Well, I had learned that because of this I ended up overheating my laptop. I never knew that it was possible to do that just because of your iPhone charger. This resulted in my laptop needing to hibernate but it damaged my iPhone case . I'm just glad I didn't damage my iPad dock that I've used for charging my iPod, too. Don't let this situation happen to you. Use only the recommended chargers and save yourself the same stress that I experienced.
